Face to Face VI: Architecture's deep structures - Towards a new criticality

6. Conversation in the series "Face to Face: Conversations on and around architecture, space and society" curated by Francesca Ferguson (Urban Drift Projects),

Face to Face is a series of in-depth, unmoderated dialogues between architects based in Germany and a conversation partner of their choice. The goal of each conversation is to dig deep into concepts, research and working philosophies that define each hosts’ current practice.

The Architect Marc Frohn and the Architecture Critic Owen Hatherley will be questioning the underlying and also political mechanisms and ambitions of contemporary architecture to open up a new criticality. Can one establish a global practice that responds to local conditions in the same way that Brutalism constituted a very specific English form of Modernism? Can architecture be employed in a more transgressive manner in order to disrupt pre-conceived notions of acceptable aesthetics? What socio-political significance does architecture have beyond the client - architect relationship? What are today’s criteria for the success and failure of an architectural project?
